I did it all with article marketing and working the SEO angle. I do think social media can be a great tool, though. It's helpful to have a plan (pick a couple services to dominate rather than trying to spatter yourself around) and stick with it. There are a lot of flashes in the pan out there; a lot of people win the game just because they stick around and put out decent content consistently.
