Hubpages for Making Money Online

November 3rd, 2010

Hubpages seems to keep climbing higher and higher.  This really speaks to the management of the website and in no small part to the amazing content writers on Hubpages.com.

If you are looking for another way to make money online, you should have a look at Hubpages.  But you should know that if you want to be successful with your pages there and actually make some money (who doesn’t) you are going to have to write a lot of good to high quality content.

And if you want to do really good, then you are going to want to do extensive keyword research.  This will help you find subjects (and the appropriate corresponding keywords and terms) that you can write about with less competition or at least with a more informed understanding of how many other sites have similar content.

One absolute key thing to do (and perhaps this is most important) is to see if other people are already writing about a given subject on hubpages.  If they are, it may be smarter for you to write about something else.  Or, maybe you want to tag along and think about the residual traffic that may come to your content as a result of being somewhat linked (by tags) to the similar content on the site.

One thing is for sure and that is that there are quite a few people (maybe about 100 or so) who are making very good money from Hubpages.  There are probably 10 who are making exceptional money.  You can be in one of these groups if you want to.

Make $100 a Month from Hubpages

September 5th, 2010

I had two people email me recently asking me the following exact question: Can I Make $100 a Month on Hubpages?

I thought it was kind of funny that two people wrote pretty close to the exact same thing and go super specific and decided to address it here on my site.

The answer is “Yes.”  You can make $100 a month on Hubpages pretty easily.  The real trick to doing this is writing a good amount of content (ie. hubs) and writing hubs that are in relatively high paying niches or industries.  If you look at it a sort of a second job, you will find success.

A third thing you can always do to make more money on Hubpages is to build links to your articles.  You can definitely make $100 a month writing on Hubpages.

If you think about it, that breaks down to about $3.33 per day a month.  If you write long hubs that are somewhat “monetizable” you should have no problem making that kind of money.  One problem is that Adsense can be a little up and down sometimes, so it can be hard to forecast earnings.

eBay affiliate earnings seem to be pretty uniform, even though your earnings per click can change drastically sometimes.  The best way to ensure that you make some money from your Hubs is to make sure that you write exceptional stuff.  Good luck and let me know when you’re making $100 a month.

What Should I Write About on Hubpages?

July 21st, 2010

If you don’t already know, Hubpages is a website where you can write articles or “hubs” and earn from any advertising revenue that comes from people visiting your pages.  If you haven’t already, you can sign up here.

You make money on Hubpages from display advertising, ebay affiliate links, and Amazon affiliate links.  You get revenue 60% of the time and Hubpages gets to keep the revenue earned on the other 40% of impressions to your pages.  A lot of people are doing very well and make a lot of money on Hubpages.  It’s definitely not easy, however.  It takes work.

What Subjects Should You Write About on Hubpages?

If you’re wondering what kind of stuff you should write about on Hubpages, you should know that you can write about pretty much anything you want to.  One of the keys to making money at Hubpages is to get a lot of traffic.  This is the key to Internet marketing success, which in a way, is what you’re doing with Hubpages.  It’s content marketing, which means your articles on the site have the potential to make you money when people visit them.  This is what we want.

So keeping that in mind, one of the best things you can do is try to keep your Hubs as original as possible–and especially the title.  Before you publish your article or even earlier on in  the planning stages you should make sure there are no other hubs with a very similar title or even very close subject matter, because it will be harder for you to compete with that page.

Let’s put it this way:  Google isn’t going to put two articles about “Best Dog Parks in Los Angeles” on the front page search results.  So, even if you have an article very close in nature to someone elses, you should tweak your title and the keywords you use throughout the hub to target a slightly different thing.  This is called finding a niche.  I like to call it “niching down” because you are attempting to get deeper into a niche to create original content that doesn’t have much competition.

You should also write about things you know about since this is what you will be able the write the best about.  Right?

Two of the most important things to writing content online (and marketing it) are authority and keywords.  “Authority” means you have something of value to say and “keywords” means you know how to target the right people who will find your article useful by using the proper search terms.

To be continued.  I will be writing about this topic a lot more over the next two weeks.  Subscribe right now so you don’t miss out on any of this.  I’m going to be giving away some Hubpages secrets.

Online Content Takes Time to Generate Revenue

July 6th, 2010

If you write content online and are trying to generate revenue, one thing you should know is that it takes time.  It can sometimes take a LONG time.  For instance, I wrote an article and published it on Associated Content three years ago.

It started to generate a little bit of money for me every month, but I stopped keeping track of it.  Last month, this article, which I published in 2006, earned me $28.  That’s the beauty of online content–residual income.

If you continue to write search-engine- and human-friendly content that has genuine value, you will be able to make money online with your writing.  One key is to be consistent with the subject matter which you write about.  If you can build a couple of links between similar pieces of content, that will be very helpful to you in the long run.

The same thing that happened for me at AC also happened for me at Hubpages.  I wrote an article and published it a few months ago.  Nothing seemed to happen for a while, but then one day, it started getting quite a bit of traffic consistently.

I’ve started to write pretty frequently at Hubpages, which I like because you can earn revenue from Adsense ads and also ebay and Amazon affiliate links.  If you haven’t heard of this site or haven’t signed up yet, read my article about how to make money on Hubpages.  Hubpages is a site where writers can write articles or “hubs.”  You can earn revenue from display advertising and affiliate programs with eBay and Amazon (unless, of course you live in California since Amazon doesn’t work with California affiliates anymore).

I guess the point of this post is to tell you not to give up if you have dreams of being a self-employed content writer online.  There are ways to make a lot of money in content writing.
