What Should I Write About on Hubpages?

July 21st, 2010

If you don’t already know, Hubpages is a website where you can write articles or “hubs” and earn from any advertising revenue that comes from people visiting your pages.  If you haven’t already, you can sign up here.

You make money on Hubpages from display advertising, ebay affiliate links, and Amazon affiliate links.  You get revenue 60% of the time and Hubpages gets to keep the revenue earned on the other 40% of impressions to your pages.  A lot of people are doing very well and make a lot of money on Hubpages.  It’s definitely not easy, however.  It takes work.

You can get started by reading my article about making money on Hubpages.  Or continue reading…

What Subjects Should You Write About on Hubpages?

If you’re wondering what kind of stuff you should write about on Hubpages, you should know that you can write about pretty much anything you want to.  One of the keys to making money at Hubpages is to get a lot of traffic.  This is the key to Internet marketing success, which in a way, is what you’re doing with Hubpages.  It’s content marketing, which means your articles on the site have the potential to make you money when people visit them.  This is what we want.

So keeping that in mind, one of the best things you can do is try to keep your Hubs as original as possible–and especially the title.  Before you publish your article or even earlier on in  the planning stages you should make sure there are no other hubs with a very similar title or even very close subject matter, because it will be harder for you to compete with that page.

Let’s put it this way:  Google isn’t going to put two articles about “Best Dog Parks in Los Angeles” on the front page search results.  So, even if you have an article very close in nature to someone elses, you should tweak your title and the keywords you use throughout the hub to target a slightly different thing.  This is called finding a niche.  I like to call it “niching down” because you are attempting to get deeper into a niche to create original content that doesn’t have much competition.

You should also write about things you know about since this is what you will be able the write the best about.  Right?

Two of the most important things to writing content online (and marketing it) are authority and keywords.  “Authority” means you have something of value to say and “keywords” means you know how to target the right people who will find your article useful by using the proper search terms.

To be continued.  I will be writing about this topic a lot more over the next two weeks.  Subscribe right now so you don’t miss out on any of this.  I’m going to be giving away some Hubpages secrets.

Hubpages is For More than Back Links

December 10th, 2009

Hubpages-make-moneyIn doing research for how to promote your website, blog, or online business, most people will be exposed to the idea of building backlinks.  It’s a very basic idea and in many ways is the foundation of a successful website.

Each backlink is like a vote of confidence, guiding others to your site.  It’s always nice to get a back link.  Hubpages is one of these places that people often try to create backlinks from to their own websites.

While it’s a totally legit thing to do–the Hubpages staff will alert you if you’re doing it in a cheesy way–and may help you get more exposure to your site, Hubpages is also a good place to make money. Period.  In other words, don’t look at the site as only a place to just throw in a few anchor text links, because it has a lot more than that to offer.  You can make some decent money on Hubpages.

If you are a member of the eBay associates program, you can earn money with well-chosen and well-placed links and, of course, you can earn from the display ads on your work.  I have been reading more and more about people who are basically building sales pages on the site, and targeting very niched-down search terms.  Good research and copywriting skills, paired with Hubpages’ ingrained ability to rank highly for thousands of terms, can push one of these pages to the first page of Google.

What I’m trying to impart is that you can make money on Hubpages–the site can be an end all be all, as well as a great place for a few links to your other sites.  Hubpages can be a larger part of your overall internet marketing, content creation strategy.  It’s a very good site and there are a lot of great people writing there and working there.

Promote Yourself with Hubpages

October 30th, 2009

hubpages make money
Hubpages, as you may have read in another one of my articles on this site, is a very good place to earn some extra income online from your writing.  The way it works is you write “hubs” about a certain subject, publish them, and earn Adsense revenue.

60% of the time, you will earn from your page impressions and 40% of the time, Hubpages earns money from the impressions.  But keep in mind, you only earn when someone clicks and ad on one of your pages.  So if you have an Adsense account and do some writing online, Hubpages is a good place to use to augment your reach, exposure, and income.

If you have a blog, website, or web business, you should absolutely be using Hubpages.  You should write “hubs” about your industry or pertaining to your work or interests.  You have a profile page where you can include a short bio about yourself and as many links as you want to your own sites.  You can link to your blog so people can read more of your work.

You can also link out from the Hubs you write if it makes sense to do so.  Even if you don’t have a site, but you sell your writing to places like Associated Content or Constant-Content, you should still do some writing at Hubpages, as it has proven to be a solid stand-alone money-earner.  That is, if you know what you’re doing.

The more time you spend there, the better you will get at creating pages and the more money you will earn over the long term.  Keyword selection is also key.  Stay tuned because I’m planning a long post all about how to select keywords, which is how you really start to make money online.

Make Money Writing for Xomba

October 23rd, 2009

Xomba is billed as “A social network geared toward people who like to write” and is a great place to make money online for creating written content.  It is an Adsense sharing site, which means that you split Adsense advertising revenue 50/50 with the site.  It’s owned by Internet entrepreneur and writer Nick Veneris and run by a very competent and passionate team based in Florida.

It’s a good place to write and earn.  Xombytes are posts a minimum of 150 words and can be about, well, anything you want them to be.  You can write about music, politics, the new camera you want to buy, or celebrities and movies.  Celeb and movie subjects do really well on this site, so if that’s the kind of thing you write about, mount up.

You can also include a link back to your site in your post, so it can be a helpful way to promote yourself and gain exposure for your content while making money in the process.

Xomblurbs are more like a social bookmarking type of thing, in that they have to include a link to a website or article and only have to be 50 words long.

So why Xomba?

  • Get more exposure for yourself and your writing by writing for an established site that already gets substantial traffic.
  • Connect with other writers (if you want to)
  • Earn money from advertisements displayed
  • Dedicated staff and owner who really care about the site and the writers
